Getir marks its one-year anniversary in the UK with pledge to have created 10,000 jobs by the end of 2022
Getir, the pioneer of ultrafast grocery delivery is today celebrating its first anniversary in the UK. This follows a blockbuster 2021, that saw the company become the market leader in the UK as it created 4,000 jobs in almost 20 cities and towns.
Globally, the company’s valuation has risen to over US$7.7billion and it has pledged to invest £100 million into the UK as it looks to expand significantly in 2022 and beyond.
Since Getir’s purple and yellow e-bikes and e-mopeds began making deliveries in London in January 2021, the company’s growth has accelerated exponentially. Getir is now operational in around 20 cities and towns including Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool and Portsmouth.
Getir has created 4,000 permanent jobs, all employed and paid at least the real living wage, and has announced that this will rise to 10,000 jobs by the end of 2022.
In just 12 months, Getir has travelled over 7 million miles making deliveries to customers using only electric mopeds and electric bikes. This has made the roads in our cities and towns safer, quieter and less polluted.
To commemorate Getir’s one-year milestone, Anne-Marie Trevelyan MP, Secretary of State for International Trade, will open Getir’s 115th store in Wolverhampton today.
International Trade Secretary Anne-Marie Trevelyan MP commented:
“We’re making the UK the most attractive investment destination in the world across our economy – from our thriving food and drink sector to innovative digital commerce brands like Getir.
“Foreign investment means more high-value jobs providing a major boost to local economies. Today’s opening in Wolverhampton shows how trade and investment is turbocharging the green industries of the future and helping to level up every part of our country.”
Turancan Salur, Regional General Manager, stated: “2021 was an extremely successful year for Getir as we began our global expansion. “There is no better city to launch international expansion from than London, due to its worldwide status and welcoming, cosmopolitan and diverse nature.
“From only 5 stores when we opened a year ago, we now serve our customers from 115 stores which has created thousands of jobs – all from the area surrounding our stores. We deliver groceries within minutes of them being ordered and are able to support many local producers around every city and town that we operate in.
“We have beaten all expectations for 2021 and plan to go even further this year; if there is demand out there, we’ll be ready to serve it.”
